Purple Line will begin Live Wire testing on the western portion of the alignment in June. They will begin testing the 2.5-mile section between the Lyttonsville Station and Bethesda Station. This testing is expected to take place in two phases: Phase 1, nightly between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., anticipated to last approximately one week. Phase 2, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., will continue periodically through 2027. Please know that this testing from Lyttonsville to Bethesda will be conducted entirely on dedicated right-of-way and does not interact with traffic.
The Purple Line team will host a virtual Testing Town Hall Event on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 12:00—1:00 p.m. During this recorded virtual Town Hall event, members of the Purple Line team will share information on testing safety and logistics, answer previously submitted questions, and take live questions about testing. If you or your neighbors are unable to join the virtual Town Hall event, the recording will be posted on our YouTube page and shared on our website for viewing. Additionally, our website’s Testing and Safety page, linked here, contains important safety and technical information, including videos of Purple Line Light Rail Vehicles testing on the eastern portion of the alignment.
